The summer heat is upon us, and that means your air conditioning system is going to be working overtime to keep you cool. We definitely don’t want you to suffer through the season, so we’ve compiled a few summer HVAC hints to help you get through it.
Test Out the System
Since there’s a good chance that you haven’t used your air conditioner in a while, you should definitely turn the system on and see if it’s running properly. If it’s not blowing lukewarm air, making strange noises, or emitting an odor, then you should get it checked by a qualified professional immediately.
Hire an HVAC Contractor
Your cooling equipment should be checked every year by a licensed HVAC technician to make sure that it’s running properly. This will not only keep the system operating at peak performance, but it will also extend the overall lifespan of the equipment. Plus, if there are any underlying problems with the equipment that may require further maintenance in the future, the technician will be able to pinpoint them and create an action plan.
Check the Air Filter
When your air filter gets clogged by debris, air won’t flow through the system as easily, which will negatively affect your HVAC system’s performance. When you schedule your annual maintenance with a technician, have him or her check the filter and replace it as needed, and then check it yourself once per month.
Upgrade to a Smart Thermostat
The type of thermostat in your home makes a huge difference in keeping your household comfortable and your energy costs down. If you’re still using a manual thermostat, upgrade to a programmable model which will allow you to select the days and times when the system is running.
