What Should You Consider When Purchasing a New Furnace?
Purchasing a new furnace can be an intimidating process. Like with any large appliance, a significant amount of research and planning should be done prior to making a decision. Furnaces are equipped with many different features, so it’s important to understand characteristics such as performance, type and size. If you’re in the market for a new furnace, be sure to consider some of the following tips.

  • Prevent heat loss. If heat is leaving your home, you’ll not only see increased utility bills, but your new appliance will have to work harder as well. Be sure to add insulation where needed and seal all ducts to make sure your new appliance won’t waste energy.
  • Weigh cost versus efficiency. Efficient appliances will save you money in the long run, but will likely require a larger upfront investment. Efficiency often depends on the fuel source your appliance uses to heat your home. Gas furnaces are economical and efficient, but may be more expensive initially. Oil and electric furnaces are effective, but often are expensive to operate.
  • Consider size. Many homeowners have furnaces that are too large for their home, which frequently leads to increased utility bills. Before purchasing a heating appliance, hire a professional to evaluate your home in order to ensure your new appliance is the perfect fit.
